First off, if you’re busy during the day at work or doing whatever, you can throw stuff together in the morning and then have a wonderful meal waiting for you when you get home. Killer bonus. Second, they make everything, well, amazing really. Any meat cooked in a slow cooker gets crazy tender and delicious- like fall off the bone perfection. And you can make desserts, beverages… pretty much anything really! Thirdly, super easy clean up. So there, three great reasons to have one of these things in your home. Oh wait, four- a bonus awesomeness… your house will smell amazeballs. Wait wait wait, five- they’re the epitome of fall… warm, comforting foods to please your belly and warm up your body!! Okay okay, I’ll stop there 🙂
So what was on the menu you ask? I tried to create a variety of dishes using a variety of proteins and flavors. Here’s what we had:
Day 1- Vegetarian Tomato Soup
Day 2- Quinoa Chicken Chili
Day 3- Asian-Style Beef Short ribs (this was the man’s fave of the week)
Day 4- Butternut Squash & Chicken Stew
Day 5- Turkey & Rice Stuffed Peppers
* I spontaneously whipped up a little Apple Cranberry Mulled Cider, too…you can’t go wrong with cider smelling up your house all day!
Quick note about the recipes: I try really hard when making recipes, especially ones for the blog, to be mindful with seasonings- particularly salt. We all have different flavor preferences- with salt, you can always add it later, but you can’t take it out! So I went on the lighter side with salt and pepper and such so that they’d be edible to just about all taste buds. Crock Pots are awesome in a gazillion ways, but the one down side is that you can’t try your food while you cook it, which is a important part of cooking! You have to just trust that what you put in will come out tasting great… so for that reason, I played it safe so that you’d be sure not to have a salt-fest happening when you came home to your meals. Of course you can adjust as you want to suit your tastebud needs 🙂
